Thank you for a successful Canadian Circular Economy Summit 2023!

The Canadian Circular Economy Summit 2023 was held on June 19-20 at the Toronto Region Board of Trade, co-hosted by Circular Innovation Council and Circular Economy Leadership Canada.

Participants had the opportunity to:

  • Support and expand the linkages between circular economies and climate action in sectors across the Canadian economy
  • Advance the circular economy innovation agenda in Canada, with a focus on industrial competitiveness and economic development opportunities
  • Participate in interactive, workshop-style programming to advance action in innovation, procurement, finance, trade, collaboration models, data, and information sharing
  • Connect with other delegates through business-to-business, business-to-government, and government-to-government programming that will result in strategic partnerships, pilot projects, and new research, while enabling delegate collaboration
  • Identify policies that can set the necessary conditions for the accelerated implementation of the circular economy in Canada

The CE Summit featured a mix of panel presentations, discussions and networking events, allowing for deeper conversation on important circular economy issues. It brought together people from the public and private sector, as well as representation from federal Ministers, federal government departments, provincial governments, and local governments. The majority of these representatives also took part in an exclusive government-to-government roundtable.

What’s Next?

This summit included active discussions on a range of cross-cutting and sector-specific issues – focusing on solutions and strategic actions. Ideas were collated and will form a National Action Plan Framework, which will include priority initiatives. Delegates can expect a report on progress toward that plan at the next Summit planned in the spring of 2025 in Quebec.

The Summary Report and 2023’s session recordings are released! Discover key insights from the sessions and upcoming initiatives to advance the circular economy in Canada. Stay tuned for the National CE Action Plan which will be released in the upcoming weeks.

The now released Action Plan serves as an open-source resource designed to foster a deeper comprehension of the circular economy and provide pathways for stakeholders to engage in its execution by endorsing key initiatives. It is designed to steer strategic orientation and serve as a blueprint for shaping the agenda of forthcoming Canadian Circular Economy Summit gatherings, including the upcoming summit scheduled for the spring of 2025 in Montréal, Québec. Furthermore, the Action Plan and the advancements made in realizing its objectives and critical initiatives will serve as a framework for future circular economy endeavors and related events.

We want to thank our co-host Circular Economy Leadership Canada, our sponsors, partners, and speakers for making this event possible!
