Education and Engagement (E&E) Programs

Circular Economy Month

Powered by Circular Innovation Council, Circular Economy Month is Canada’s public awareness campaign dedicated to educating and empowering Canadians to support an economy that delivers on the most important values of Canadians: protecting the planet and prioritizing people.

Every October, we invite individuals, governments, organizations, and schools across Canada to learn about the circular economy, celebrate our individual and collective efforts, embrace circular solutions, and encourage others to take action.

The Circular Economy Month in Canada campaign has become the marquee educational program engaging and empowering Canadians from all corners of the country; youth, educators, policymakers, businesses and communities. For 20 years, Waste Reduction Week focused on the concepts of waste reduction and recycling as a key component of our transition to a circular economy. However, educating Canadians on this new model of consumption involves more than just one week. That’s why Circular Innovation Council extended Waste Reduction Week in Canada beyond the third week of October into Circular Economy Month to educate and excite Canadians about the opportunities and benefits of the circular economy.

Share Reuse Repair Hub (SRRH)

Share, reuse, and repair are simple but essential actions we can easily incorporate into our lives to extend the life of products we use everyday and stimulate a circular economy. Supporting share, reuse and repair keeps items out of landfills, reduces carbon emissions and supports local businesses in our communities.

Launched in 2022 by the Circular Innovation Council with support from York Region’s Circular Economy Initiatives Fund, the Share, Reuse, Repair Hub is an online resource that allows easy access to information that enables share, reuse, and repair. Explore the Hub to find businesses and resources available near you!

The Hub aims to increase awareness in the community of the benefits of the circular economy, and help measure the impact of reducing waste. Its also creates awareness for communities with an emphasis on promoting local businesses and events that showcase circular business models.

Plastic Action Centre

Despite the increasing interest in plastics and reducing its environmental impacts there is no single national repository that provides governments, businesses, educators, researchers, and citizens the necessary scope of information to take meaningful action.

With the belief that information leads to action, Circular Innovation Council has developed the Plastic Action Centre, a knowledge hub that gathers information to educate, engage, and empower action on plastics.

Launched in April 2019, the Plastic Action Centre includes:

  • Inventory of resources and tools
  • Relevant facts and figures
  • Market developments and business efforts
  • Regulatory advances and policy initiatives
  • Media coverage
  • Educational material
  • Consumer tips and more
