Digital transformation and the explosion of AI are creating unprecedented demand for computing capacity and changing the economics and supply chains that IT leaders have historically relied on. Rising and increasingly variable costs for cloud and AI services, pressure on data-centre capacity, volatility in hardware and component markets, and growing demand for critical metals and minerals are making it harder to deliver more digital capability while managing budgets, infrastructure and risk.
In this environment, IT leaders are optimizing value from existing assets, infrastructure and digital resources already under their control. Circular strategies – such as energy use transparency to right-size digital services, and extending the life of IT equipment through refurbishment, as-a-service, reuse, and end-of-life recovery – are critical strategies to help mitigate cost volatility and reduce exposure to constrained supply chains.
Application of circular economic strategies also reduce demand for new materials and deliver emission reductions, while creating opportunities for Canadian businesses and skilled IT, sustainability and manufacturing jobs in repair, refurbishment, secure data sanitization, reuse and materials recovery processing.
The webinar series will demonstrate how employing circular strategies can help public sector and enterprise IT leaders reduce operational and capital costs, strengthen supply resilience, improve resource efficiency and maximize economic value in Canada—all while advancing climate and sustainability goals. Case studies will highlight the role of circular procurement as the strategic lever to advance these interconnected opportunities.

Yet only 15.5% of those respondents are integrating this into procurement, by considering lifecycle extension a top purchasing factor for equipment and infrastructure.
