Circular Procurement Virtual Series

Circular Procurement Virtual Series 2020 is a four-part webinar presentation for professionals in public and private procurement functions, facility management, finance, legal, and sustainability, along with vendors and suppliers. It aims to expand knowledge of the circular economy and its benefits; and showcase critical insights and steps to consider along the journey to implement circular procurement. Circular Procurement Virtual Series 2020 will feature guest experts from around the globe bridging knowledge to Canada who will share their experience putting circular economy concepts into action through procurement.

The series includes dedicated Canadian content to offer a new platform for continued collaboration.

Every year, federal procurement specialists purchase more than $22 billion worth of goods, services, and construction on behalf of the Government of Canada through its procurement process. The federal government can also simultaneously advance Canada’s circular economy through buying power, and work collaboratively with public buyers at other levels to align public policy goals and objectives.

As Executive Director for the Centre, Nick Xenos works with federal departments to implement the government’s Greening Government Strategy and transition to low-carbon and climate-resilient operations, while also reducing environmental impacts beyond carbon.

A showcase of circular business models in action with examples of innovative products and services that deliver circularity, as well as an examination of how the current linear economic model of consumption – take-make-waste – and traditional procurement practices continue to be an ongoing barrier to deliver on our collective environmental, economic, and social objectives.

A candid conversation on:

  • What and how procurement is the most important tool to accelerating our transition to a circular economy.
  • How current market conditions and procurement requirements present barriers to support circular suppliers and vendors.
  • What are the top three changes needed to make the shift… and fast.

In the lens of organizational change management, we investigate how to identify circular opportunity to support policy and strategy development that can guide implementation of circular procurement, with examples of circular ambitions in Canada and beyond. This session will also explore how to identify pilots and opportunity according to spend category, as well as key stakeholders required to support circular ambition.

Critical to achieving results is defining the outcomes they wish to advance and creating the conditions for markets to delivery on them. Defining value and measuring success is critical to realizing the full benefits of circular procurement. Setting performance indicators, assigning meaningful measurement criteria, evaluating these indicators on par with price, and following up to ensure adherence is pivotal to encourage vendors and suppliers to shift business models and products to transition our economy from linear to circular. This webinar explores how to retool procurement processes and supply chain relationships to redefine value that delivers on collective and individual societal goals.
